TBI Survivors Network Development Project – TBI WA is the Northwest’s largest Brain Injury Support Network and the only organization that is ran by survivors and their families so any donation directly supports those affected by brain injury. We are part of a advocacy network with more than 100 groups. Since its conception 2006 it has experience growing pains trying to keep up with the demand, growing at an astronomical rate. We are one of the fastest growing advocacy groups in the world. In 2011 we had another record breaking growth year. Below is just some of what we do
- Offered over 700 support groups in 2011
- More than 14,000 support group attendees in 2011
- 137 events in 2011
- Over 50 brain injury radio broadcasts
- Trained over 2000 healthcare professions about brain injury
- Offered our second year of Brain Injury Classes at community colleges
- Worked with over a hundred high school students with brain injury
- Over 13,000 incoming phone calls
- Tens and tens of thousands of emails
- Operate and maintain 34 brain injury websites receiving over 14 million visits
- Operate and maintain 29 social networks with over 20,000 members
- Created over 100 leadership opportunities for survivors
- Distributed over 100,000 pieces of literature to create public awareness
- Created 2 public resource data bases
- Developed 11 public service announcements/videos
- Partner with 17 non profits providing services
- 9 of our members sit on governor appointed councils
- 3 projects published in medical journals
- Changed, passed 4 brain injury laws
- Distributed more than 1400 helmets
- Developed 4 new accredited brain injury training trainings
- Supported dozens of survivors the opportunity to advocate with their legislators
- Distributed more than 13,000 brain injury news letters
- Chaired the National Public Health Departments effort to create policy including Persons with disabilities and changed national policy
- Connected more than a 100 survivors and family members to experienced mentors
